Toby Jepson - Web Site Update
Hi all
Yes it is true, I'M STILL ALIVE!!!!! Where do I begin
to tell you all what has been happening since I last posted.
Ok, well as you all know, I have
now become the singer in GUN which has, so far, been a great fun. Last
years gigs were bigger and more fun than I thought was possible so it
has led us all to feel very positive about the future. We are planning
to tour extensively over the next 18 months as well as develop new
music. It hasn't all been plain sailing with a change of management and
agent which has taken a little more time than we all anticipated, but we
are now in the happy situation of being able to book shows and make a
long term plan to reinvent the band for a new future. All the info you
need will be present on the
official GUN
site.
The question I keep getting asked
is 'what is happening about the last EP
of the 'Guitar, Bass and Drums' collection'?
Well, things have changed a lot since last year including the personnel
of the band. The good news is that the EP is all but finished with only
bits of overdubbing to complete and a vocal or two, so I anticipate it
emerging sometime at the back end of the summer along side the promised
booklet and possibly some remixed versions of earlier tunes also
available in what is hoped to be a collection of the best tracks into a
fully realised album format.
With regard to the band itself, well in keeping with
each EP so far, I have decided to work with new musicians to complete
the trilogy. The recording has been done at my own new studio in
Scarborough and has employed an old mate, Matt E on drums, with all the
other instrumentation being completed by myself with some of the guitar
tracks played by a close friend of mine, Jason Wardman. It is a slightly
more intense EP than the other two, and I would say dynamically
different with a quirky pop edge! I love it actually, so hope you lot do
too.
It will be available through the site shop and
hopefully, once I have decided how to do it, on the road when I tour.
The touring will be different this time, and perhaps not as extensive
but I have every intention of delivering on my promise to see this EP
collection to its conclusion. It may not have stuck to the original time
scale but it WILL be finished.
In other news, I have begun to work with a whole
variety of artists as co-writer and producer. I am in fact working on an
album with a band who I believe could be as big as Nirvana! For the
moment they will remain nameless but I assure you, they will coming to
your attention very soon.
Ok so that is the news to date,
apart from to say that the site is due to be relaunched as an appendage
to the GUN site, to cut down the confusion. Any info you need to find
out about my general activities can be found through GUN official, and
Nige
is now my direct contact and webmaster, any questions should be put to
him and he will send onto me.
Have a great summer and see you all soon, and
thanks for your continued support and interest. The future is looking
good! Take care all of you
Kindest regards
Tobe

Toby announced as Fastway lead vocalist
It is with great pleasure that we announce that Tobe has been invited to
join the ranks as lead vocalist of the 2007 version of FASTWAY.
Fastway was the brainchild of Ex Motorhead Guitar legend ‘Fast’ Eddie
Clarke who achieved huge success in the mid eighties releasing 3 albums
to popular acclaim both in Europe and the
US.
Having had a rest from the business, Eddie has re-surfaced with fresh
intent, a new line up featuring bass player John Mc Manus (ex Mamas
Boys) and drummer Steve Strange, and a series of open air festival dates
(listed below)
This invitation has
come as a surprise to Tobe and I’m sure to all of you, but never the
less Tobe has accepted the challenge and had the following to say about
the situation: ‘I'm
very excited to be asked to do this, I owned a copy of the first FASTWAY
record and have a lot of respect for Eddie, it is a great opportunity
and one I simply couldn’t turn down…it will see me as part of a great
band treading the stages of Europe’s biggest festival this year and who
know what else in the future…’
When pushed about how it will affect Tobes solo career he said: ‘not at
all is the answer! I have had detailed discussions with the management
of the FASTWAY camp and have let them know that I have a solo career in
development that I have commitment to and will continue to pursue…I see
this project with FASTWAY as a great second string, it allows me to work
with other musicians on material that isn’t mine and so stretches me as
a vocalist and allows me to simply concentrate on the singing…it looks
like it will be a lot of fun and I intend to enjoy it…we have already
had a couple of rehearsals and it sounded great, Eddie is on top form so
I think the shows will be very cool, however, the Chepstow show and the
September tour is still of the highest priority for me and I cant wait
to get back in the studio in July to record the next EP so all is as it
should be…’
Clearly this kind of exposure can only enhance Toby’s chances of
regaining a foothold in the music scene so I believe it is a great step
forward!

Vinyl Ripping In
Progress
Just got hold of an ION TT USB
Turntable and have started a project to rip all of my catalogue of
Little Angels records into mp3 format.
So far, the results have been
excellent using Audacity to rip, clean, and normalise, and where
necessary add effects to restore the original sound.
This morning I've heard some
Little Angels tracks that have been gathering dust in my attack for over
10 years including a cover of Tie Your Mother Down (LTLXP 4) that is
just fugging amazing. |

Don't Prey For Me,
Young Gods, and Jam! Re-Issued
https://www.townsend-records.co.uk/artist.php?artist=Little+Angels

Don't
Prey For Me
Hard Rock or Heavy Metal?
Having asked the critics they decide to classify this band as Hard Rock
and Pop Metal. They would eventually have a number one album with Jam in
1991 but this is the debut album from this UK band. They would be
thought of as great musicians if not great innovators with new original
material. They were better known in the UK and never quite made it in
the States, though this debut did not chart.
Young
Gods
Their album Jam debuted at
the top of the British charts (UK 1) to the surprise of many. This album
from 1991 was their attempt to break Little Angels in America, a move
which proved unsuccessful yet in the UK they gew from strength to
strength. This album reached (UK 17) in the album charts.
Jam
The British hard-rock
outfit Little Angels was formed in 1987 in Scarborough, all the members
were attending University at the time. Their skills had been honed in
local area schools as one member, Jimmy Dickinson, was too young to play
in clubs. Steadily gaining a loyal following on the strength of their
live performances, including an opening set for the then unknown Guns
'N' Roses they signed to Polydor. A push into America failed at time but
the group's fanbase at home continued to grow. Their album Jam debuted
at the top of the British charts (UK 1) to the surprise of many.

Happy Christmas from Iain, Lisa,
and Alex at www.bigbadworld.net
Thanks to everyone who
keeps visiting the site, and staying in touch. It is a constant
source of inspiration for me to keep the site going when I hear from you
all. For as long as the interest remains, I'll keep this site
going. It's great news that Toby has come out of retirement again
and will be rocking a venue near you in early 2006, and lets all hope
this leads to bigger and better things for Mr Jepson.
I do still have some
material that hasn't made it to the site (yes, I know I've said that
before), and I know there are still
pages that say "under construction". I WILL get round to updating
the site, the biggest new addition in 2004 was the addition of the
bootlegs section.
Thanks again for
visiting, I hope you'll keep coming back.
Have a great
Christmas, and a prosperous New Year.

It
is with great pleasure that I am talking to the stage again. I know I
sounded so final at the end of the last tour, but I burnt out and
becoming jaded by the business AGAIN! I have not stopped writing though,
and have continued to seek ways to re invent myself although it has
proven to be very difficult. It has taken this to re charge my batteries
and I have to say that the most unexpected things are often the best
things that ever happen to you. I am so thrilled that THUNDER have seen
fit to include me in their thoughts when considering bands for support.
I will be eternally grateful to Danny and the boys for that, and I hope
my re entry can give me a chance to repay them someday. I have always
said that the fans, you lot, are the reason that I keep going and it is
never truer than now. Your continued words of encouragement even when I
was silent have helped keep the fires burning and give me the courage to
get back out there and I fully intend to deliver the finest set I can
and not disappoint. I will be delighted to see you all on the tour. My
very best wishes and deepest thanks.

Thanks to
Grayson Jones for converting a

Christmas Jam concert to MP3 / CD format, and for producing some
excellent cover art.
I was at this concert
and remember it as the first time that I heard material from the

the Angels' played a video intro showing how the album was made,
and some behind-the-scenes footage of life in the studio.

real attention, and so over the next few weeks I intend to get round to
making some much needed improvements. I'll let you know what has
changed here, please feel free to send me any ideas you have for
improvements or additions, and also let me know what you think of the
improvements.
First on my list of frustrations was the

By popular demand....

Over the next few months I will be
uploading a track a week from the Little Angels bootleg that was
recorded back in 1987 (yes over 17 years ago!!) at Scarborough Opera
House. The quality varies across the bootleg but is average, you
can generally make out the lyrics pretty clearly, it just sounds a bit
"harsh".
I have had lots of requests to make this
available and have lost count of the number of CD's I've burned for
people.
So, what better way to share it than via
the website. And over time I hope to make available all the live
bootlegs I've got, I just need to clear some storage space on the web
server!
All I ask in return is that you feedback
your comments via the notice board. Ultimately I will be creating
a separate section of BBW with bootlegs, bootleg reviews, and feedback.
If anyone has a Little Angels (or
related) bootlegs please let me know. I have no doubt that there
are some out there I haven't got or even heard of, and I'd love to
trade!
So... onto the Scarborough Opera House
bootleg...
Track Listing:
1 - Better than the rest
2 - Livin' Up
3 - Don't let it slip away
4 - Reach for me
5 - Curiosity
6 - You really got me
7 - Burning me
8 - Pleasure Pyre
9 - Need You, Want You
10 - Down the road
11 - Introductions
12 - Guitar Solo
13 - Jamming Session
14 - Slow Down
15 - Down in the night

The Rest"

feedback!

Michael Lee...
is on tour with Thin Lizzy. Just
thought you might all be interested!
More news and some links to follow... but
meanwhile...
Thin
Lizzy 2004 are obviously not the same band they once were. Vocals
are now taken care of by latter day Lizzy guitarist John Sykes,
who handled them surprisingly well (Phil Lynott died in the
mid-‘80s). Their 10 songs had the ferocity of a band half their age,
with Sykes alternating lead licks with guitarist Scott Gorham —
the only member to record most of the songs played during the course of
the evening. New recruit Michael Lee
was on drums and the former Echo And The Bunnymen/Page And Plant
drummer was the deciding factor turning this performance from average to
remarkable. And he was remarkable. Lee’s
pounding on the skins really upped the intensity level on "Emerald" and
"Bad Reputation." Closing off with a rousing "The Boys Are Back In
Town," the quartet exceeded my expectations.

Friday 19th December, 2003 |

Happy Christmas from Iain
and Lisa at www.bigbadworld.net
Thanks to everyone who
keeps visiting the site, and staying in touch. It is a constant
source of inspiration for me to keep the site going when I hear from you
all. For as long as the interest remains, I'll keep this site
going. We can only hope that one day Toby comes back out of
retirement, and who knows the Little Angels get back together if only
for one gig! Hell, every other 80's band is doing it!
Stranger things have happened...
It constantly amazes
me how the site goes from strength to strength and serves around 1000
pages per week. Now, whilst I can't pinpoint exactly how many
individual visitors come to the site, if you assume that the average
visit by an individual accesses 5 pages (site home page, LA home page,
hot off the press, notice board, one other page) then I reckon BBW gets
about 200 visits per week.

So.. THANK YOU!
I do still have some
material that hasn't made it to the site, and I know there are still
pages that say "under construction". I WILL get round to updating
the site. Since the re-design last year, I still like the current
format so I have no plans to change it.
Certainly in 2004 I
will be making available a BOOTLEGS page and am currently looking for an
easy means of making the bootlegs I have available on-line for download.
If anyone has any ideas (apart from Kazaa) please let me know.
Thanks again for
visiting, I hope you'll keep coming back.
Have a great
Christmas, and a prosperous New Year.

Twisted Rhapsodies....
New Album... Twisted Rahapsodies
At long last BBW can announce the imminent
release of Toby's final album. The release will be a double album, one
CD will be a full live album recorded at Nottingham's Rock City Venue on
the tour this time last year, and the second CD will be 14 tracks from
various stages in Toby's career post Angels, illustrating his eclectic
writing style. There is something for everyone, with many styles of
recording demonstrated and we are sure it will enthral, delight and
surprise in equal measure. There are also 3 tracks included on the live
album recorded absolutely live in the studio, rough mixes only, but
chosen by Toby to bookend the two albums.
The album will be called: 'Twisted Rhapsodies' and is the debut release
from the newly created record company arm of Townsend Records and will
be available through the web site via
www.townsendrecords.co.uk
and typing in Toby Jepson in the songwriters search section.

"BBW gets a complaint"
Some BBW notice board contributors may have
received an email earlier this week from a Mr Purdie complaining that
parts of BBW are a rip-off of his own site. In his own words he
says he leached (and will continue to do so) the email addresses from
the notice board, well I think leach is an appropriate word. And
the email is nothing more than Spam!
Sadly, this means I've had to spend half of
my Sunday morning removing email addresses from the notice board area of
BBW, to prevent Purdie spamming more of you.
Of course, I categorically deny that ANY
part of BBW is ripped, and would like to think that I acknowledge and
credit all contributions made by other fans and publications. If I
have made any oversights in this respect, then please accept my
apologies, let me know, and I'll rectify any genuine oversights.
A lot of blood, sweat, and Guinness has gone
into the making of BBW, and so it was particularly sad to receive this
email from Purdie. I think Purdie is after some free
advertising, so here is a link to his site:
http://www.aopy71.dsl.pipex.com/MusicPage/angels.html
I'll leave you all to judge for yourself who might have ripped what from
who! |

It is a well known fact that
history repeats itself.
"TOO BLOODY GOOD TO LAST"
Toby posted the
following announcement on
www.tobyjepson.com
today.
It is with a heavy heart that I announce
my immediate withdrawal from the music industry. This may come as a
shock to you but I am afraid I have no option. I will try to explain.
As you may have read in the press over the last few months, the industry
is under enormous strain, with large and small operators unable to
function and going out of business due to the changing landscape.
I have been involved in the music business for almost 16 years and have
never seen such a change and it simply means that, with all the best of
intentions, someone like me operating at such a low level, cannot find
the support within the industry base necessary to sustain a company
intent on trying to achieve the things we set out to achieve.
I went into the re-start of my music career with both eyes open, fully
aware of the risks and all guns blazing ready to take on the world. Two
tours, one EP and a reasonably successful web site later, I find that I
am no nearer even the first step to getting to where I need to be. The
problems are many, most of it centred on the cost of touring and paying
the personnel to do the necessary duties. The crux of the problem is
that I have simply not sold enough records to keep the company afloat.
There are many reasons for this, lack of exposure due to the cost of
advertising, slow uptake due to the time it took to let the fans know I
was back, poor radio/magazine coverage etc, but the fact is that I
simply cannot MAKE people buy into me or my stuff.
Our plan after the EP was to seek out a partner to help finance the
making of an album, it is a catch 22 situation; without an album my
agent won’t put me out on tour as there is nothing to promote and so
stimulate interest from the fans, but touring is the only real way I
have to generate that interest.
From the very beginning of this project I have scoured every country and
virtually every indie and major record label on the planet, in an
attempt to find such a partner, but to no avail.
I have always tried to remain level headed and realistic about my
position. The fact is that I do know the mechanisms of this business and
most of it is hidden from view. The music business is dense and wide
reaching, as well as very politically motivated. It takes a variety if
things to all come together to stimulate any kind of momentum and I have
simply not set those fires alight this time. It would also be naïve to
assume that I can do this totally independent of outside help, even
though it was always my intention to remain as independent as possible.
Even the most independent companies have great distribution, large
investment usually from major companies, and a string of other artists
to help keep the company coffers turning.
I have championed you the fans and you have been tremendous, coming to
the gigs and being so unbelievably supportive, it is something I and the
boys in the band will never forget and it is what makes this decision so
hard for me.
As a final departing shot, I intend to release a double album of all the
tracks that have never seen the light of day, finished masters, demo's
etc and also the live stuff from Rock City in July last year, it will be
released through Townsend records on-line site, details will be
forwarded to you in due course should you feel compelled to buy.
All that remains for me to say is an enormous ‘thank you’ and a heavy
hearted ‘we tried’
I sincerely hope you can understand the problems we have had to face and
realise what a hard decision it has been for me to take.
Take care,
Toby |

"It is with great
sadness..." On 28th January
2003, Toby told investors in Jepsongs and told of his intentions
to cease the pursuit of his solo career via Jepsongs Ltd. He says "I went into the re-start of my
music career with both eyes open, fully aware of the risks and all guns
blazing ready to take on the world. Two tours, one EP, and a
successful web site later, I find that I am no nearer even the first
step to getting to where I need to be"
Tobe describes the fans as tremendous,
and the music industry as fickle. He still intends to release the live
album as promised, as well as the possibility of an album of all the
songs he has recorded that have never seen the light of day. If
the latter comes to fruition it will truly be a collectors item.
There will be a general statement on
www.tobyjepson.com explaining
all sometime
during the next few days.
Tobe, on behalf of myself, Lisa, and
all visitors to BBW, we wish you the best of luck,

LIVE IN THE CITY!!
Toby says the following about the
forthcoming Live Album "the thing is, we tried to putout an official
live album in the Angels days but never really found the right moment,
there was the live Bonus material with 'JAM' but it was hastily put
together and, I felt, not substantial enough, so this gives me an
opportunity to present some live material albeit not with the same band,
for the fans. The show was a real high point on the tour in July
and I think every body that was there could see, hear and feel that we
were really switched on that night so it was perhaps a little bit of
spiritual, karmic circumstance that made us raise our game and get it
right on tape. It shall remain a classic show for ever in my life
right up there with Wembley and all the great gigs. I really mean that."
The album will contain
around 15 tracks and will be out early 2003.
No more live shows this year though, the
acoustic shows that were tentatively scheduled have had to be cancelled
due to Mr. Jepson err. falling off a ladder and breaking a finger.

Hi, BBW is still here, all is quiet on
the Angels and the Toby front at the moment, hence there's been no
updates for a while.
I think
everyone is aware that Mark Richardson is
now an integral part of Feeder, and the following picture was taken at
the recent Q awards. The guy has changed - if you don't recognise
him, Mark is the one on the right!

Toby is still working on the release of
live material recorded at Nottingham Rock City on the last tour, and is
hard at work behind the scenes. It was about a year ago to the day
that news started breaking here on BBW that the main man was getting
back into the music scene ago. See how the story unfolded
here. |

through the log files for the number of hits, visitors, etc and it looks
like BBW has been busy whilst I've been away!!
Here's my highlights...
- Week beginning 28th July, there were
942 page requests recorded!
- Week beginning 18th August there were
4,199 hits recorded!
Cheers!

Mark
Richardson News!!
Feeder will release their
fourth full album on 21st October 2002 on the Echo Label. 'Comfort In
Sound' is the result of prolific work in the studio this year and is
regarded by those lucky enough to have heard it as Feeder's best album
yet.
'Comfort In Sound' will
feature eleven all-new Feeder songs including the first single 'Come
Back Around' - released on September 30th. 'Come Back Around' is
up-tempo, upbeat and definitely 'rock'. Despite some starkly emotional
lyrics that hint at the band's state of mind at the beginning of the
year, 'Come Back Around' is an emphatic address: a statement of intent.
Other track titles
include 'Forget About Tomorrow', 'Helium', 'Find The Colour', 'Just The
Way I'm Feeling', 'Godzilla' and 'Child In You'. A full track listing
will be announced shortly. 'Comfort In Sound' was recorded in London
this year and produced by Grant Nicholas and Gil Norton, who also worked
with Feeder on 'Echo Park'.
Feeder will play their
first - and only - shows of 2002 in August. They headline Evening
Session stage at The Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds and Glasgow Gig
On The Green and warm up for these dates in Portsmouth on the 20th
August. Full dates follow:
August
Tuesday
20th Portsmouth Wedgwood Rooms
Friday
23rd Carling Weekend: Reading Festival
Saturday
24th Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival
Sunday
25th Glasgow Gig On The Green
Of the decision to carry
on after the January suicide of drummer Jon Lee, singer Grant Nicholas
said in Kerrang! (Cover dated 27 July 2002): 'We're carrying on because
I think it's what Jon would have wanted.'
'We've come too far,
we've got too many fans out there, and there's too many people that have
really stuck by us over the years. It just seems tragic to give up now.
We're a good band, but we've got a lot more left in us before we call it
a day.' Feeder's first major interview of the year appears in full in
this week's issue Kerrang!
Mark Richardson, ex-Skunk
Anansie, has drummed on the album, and will join Grant and bassist Taka
Hirose to play the August dates. He is not, at present a fully-fledged
member of Feeder.

Well,
the May 2002 poll results are in and counted, and all I can reveal at
the moment is that only 7% of you are correct.
So what does Mr Jepson have to say about The
Voice...
Where
the rumour came from that I am 'The Voice' I don't know. And you are all
miles off with Scott! The identity of the correspondent as a 'secret'
was not intended to cause such intrigue, but now there is speculation ,
I rather like it! This person is, a close friend of mine, in fact known
most of my life.
Looks like the identity of The Voice is
going to remain a mystery... at least for now! |

Hi y'all,
I'm proposing going through the rigmarole
of setting up two USENET newsgroup's alt.music.tobyjepson,
and alt.music.littleangels. This is for any internet
folks out there a fairly laborious and lengthy task, and will require
at least 100 people to "vote" YES to convince the powers that be
that's it's a worthwhile use for resources.
So, before I go for it, what's the level
of interest out there?
Thanks,

Jimmy's
latest band The One Hit Wonders are touring Scotland in early
April, and will also be playing at Murray's Bar in Scarborough on 18th
April. Why the name? Well, they only play songs by artists who
have had just the one hit. The blurb goes "The One Hit Wonders
have a repertoire of well over one hundred songs, all of which by their
very nature lend themselves to a great party set. They attempt to
incorporate as many of these songs as possible within the set including
several medleys."

bigbadworld.net
re-launched!
I can remember the first time
I came across this site, we were living down south at the time, and a
friend of my wife's called to say she had discovered an Angels site, and I
should have a look. I wasn't active musically at the time, but was
intrigued, so I logged on. I expected to be greeted by an average looking
fan site that contained all the basic information. I was wrong! Here was a
site that not only looked great and was easy to navigate, but that had
obviously been designed by a fan who epitomised the attitude that ALL
Angels fans had, DEDICATION!
It is always strange
looking at your life laid out in front of you, specifically when it has
been interpreted by a stranger, but I was struck by the careful and
respectful way Iain had crafted the information, deliberate but cautious,
factual but containing just the right amount of 'Fan attitude' and above
all it was a tribute that obviously came from the heart.
I liked the way the message
board acted as a TRUE fan forum, with not only messages and questions
included but also it was a place for those who wanted to trade stuff...I
have to say, I have been influenced by this on my own site.
Now we see a new version of
bigbadworld, and I'm sure Iain will continue to go from strength to
strength. I consider Iain and BBW as one of the direct driving forces that
helped me get back on the road, if it hadn't been for this site, maybe I
wouldn't have seen just how much I missed the excitement and unbelievable
commitment of those who were truly affected by our band and vice versa.
It gives me great pleasure
to be associated with BBW and I hope we can work in partnership with each
other as a new chapter in this story starts to unfold...
The very best of things
BIGBADWORLD and all who visit...
